In the new report from Isuppli the company analyze the shipments of Amoled from 2010 to 2015. Amoled (active matrix organic light emitting diode is rapidly becoming a popular display for smartphones. As a result of these trends, global unit shipments of AMOLEDs will soar to 271.2 million units in 2015, rising at a 40.6 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 49.4 million units in 2010. AMOLED revenue is set to expand to $3.6 billion in 2015, expanding at a CAGR of 31.9 percent from $892.1 million in 2010.

Samsungs first production line from the 5.5G line starts the production in the next two weeks. This first stage of production will turn out 24,000 substrates per month.Samsung Mobile display want to ramp up 3 lines of that 5.5G line, so the monthly output of 4-inch panels can increase up to 8 million every month. Isuppli thinks that could be possible in end of 2011, but we think it will be in the second quarter 2012 because of the japanese earthquake and the demand of panels. Samsung Mobile Display will concentrate on small-and medium sized panels with these two 5.5G lines. Samsung want to produce a 7 inch Galaxy Tab which using a OLED Display. Isuppli thinks that this can not be reached befor 2013. We think that this can be possible in 2012.

Isuppli says that that the problems from AMOLED are the high manufacturing cost (30 to 60 percent) resolution, lifetime, visibility in sunlight, time-consuming manufacturing costs.

The high manufacturing costs are because they have to use LTPS backplanes that require laser annealing. At the moment this production method can not be used on large glass substrates.

But Isuppli are sure that the problems can be solved and also the organic materials can be improved year by year.
