Apple multilayer 3D transparent OLED patent published

The US Patent and Trademark Office today show an Apple patent that was filed in January 2010. The patent is for a glasses free 3D gadget which use multiple transparent display layers.

The patent describes a display that consists of three individual displays, transparent OLEDs in the front and middle, as well as a common LCD in the back.The distance between the panels can determine the intensity of the 3D effect, the patent claims.
Apple says:
“The use of OLED panels may provide an advantage over traditional display devices, since OLED panels do not require a backlight to function, and may therefore be much thinner and lighter than backlit display panels. OLED panels are further capable of displaying deep black levels and can naturally achieve a high contrast ratio.”
