Although more panel makers are now willing to push light-emitting diode (OLED) products and expect this year OLED applications could take off, AU Optronics (AUO) commented that the company has no plan to continue investing in the OLED panel market in the short term, said HB Chen, vice chairman of AUO, during FPD International 2007 at Yokohama Japan (Oct 24-26).
However, Chen noted AUO will keep monitoring OLED technology and the market dynamics in the future.
Compared to the changes in TFT LCD technology, production cost and chain supply, the improvement in OLED technology is relatively slow, Chen pointed out. Due to some technology bottlenecks in OLED panels and concerns of production cost of the products, the segment is still facing a long way to go to achieve wide acceptance in the market, added Chen.
