AUO want to compete against SMD with cheaper AMOLED Panels in 1Q 2011

The demand of AMOLEDs for smartphones is very strong, and Samsung Mobile Display can not deliver so much OLED Panels. Now AU Optronics or AUO want to introduce there touch panel business for smartphones under its consumer product display business group.

AUO has begun production of in-cell touch panels based on its TFT-LCD manufacturing technology.

AUO start the mass production of small/medium sized AMOLEDs in 2011 with the 3.5G plant. The Display Business Operation executive VP Paul Peng says that in addition Auo may use its 4.5G production equipment to make OLED panels.
Some insider told us that the AMOLED Panels from AUO has a longer lifetime and are cheaper than the panels from Samsung Mobile Display.
