Philips Lumiblade OLED Workshop: Open Innovation

Our assistent Michel Schon got the chance to visit the Creative Lab from Philips in Aachen.

Mr.Thomas Mohs from Philips says hello to the members of the workshop. 8 person follows the Philips workshops.

The presentation starts with some overview about Philips OLED lighting history.

Philips show also some very interesting presentation about the “Product feature roadmap”. In a few years we can control every color from a OLED panel says Mr. Mohs. Also transparent and flexible OLED lighting modules are possible in the near future. The lifetime and efficiency will increase dramatically in the coming years.

Philips Lumiblade OLED lighting panel Square Tall Plus

Philips offers a new Lumiblade OLED lighting panel called Square Tall plus. The new panel is very efficient with 45 lm/w instead of 12 lm/w. The size is 7×7 cm and the panel was developed from Konica Minolta. The panel costs about 120 euro and the minimum quantitiy is 100 units.

Luminous efficacy: 45 lm/W
Thickness: 1.8 mm
Lifetime: 10,000 hours
Luminance: 1,000 cd/m²
Current/voltage: 71.5 mA / 3.6 V
Color coordinates (x; y): 0.45 ; 0.41
Color temperature: 2,800 K

Philips video about OLED lighting Lumiblade

In this video Kristin Knappstein, a business development executive at Philips, explains the appeal of OLEDs, the newest form of lighting to emerge onto the market.Knappstein explains: “The OLED distributes diffuse light, and every lumen which is emitted from the OLED is usable light.That means that you don’t lose anything anymore in the lampshade, the reflector, the diffuser, and that’s what makes them so energy efficient.”

OLED technology is still evolving, and test samples at Philips’ lab in Aachen, Germany, are made by hand.

So what’s inside? Philips Technology Research scientist Stefan Grabowski has the answer.
