Sony developed a new manufacturing process for OLEDs which improve the image quality

Sony developed a new OLED Panel with Self-aligned Top-gate Oxide TFT. With this technology the image quality was improved by reducing the uneveness of brightness.

Sony showcase a 9.9 inch OLED prototype and a pixel count of 960 x 540 at the SID-2011. The brightness of this panel is 200cd/m2 with an all-white signal and 600cd/m2 or higher at its peak. The contrast ratio is 1.000.000:1 or highter with a color gamut of 96% on NTSC standards.

When will we see larger cost competitive OLED-TV Panels?

In an interview with Barry Young the managing director of the OLED-Association we got some insider information.
The big question is when we will see cost competitive OLED-TV panels which can compete to LCD and Plasma HDTVs.

Barry Young explain also the technical issues which have to be solved!

In 2012 Barry sees 30 to 40 inch OLED-Television devices in 1 to 2 million volume but the price will be very high.
In 2013 and 2014 Barry Young sees 5 to 6 million AMOLED-Tvs. In 2015 we will see 10 to 15 million Organic Television devices which are very competitive to LCD and Plasma devices.

LG Display plans a 8 gen OLED-Tv production fab for 55 inch size in 2011

LG plans to ramp up a 8 gen OLED production line to produce 55-inch OLED-Tv in 2011-2012.
LG Display is ready to order the equipment for the 8 gen fab in the next month. The 8th generation OLED fab can handle a 2200x2500mm on a glass substrate. LG cut this in in half 2200×1250 mm, the capacity are 24.000 substrates per month. LG plans the 8 gen Fab in Paju and the goal is to be production ready end of 2011.
Only the 8 gen manufacturing line can produce cost effective OLED-Television devices.

Sony unveil two new professional OLED monitors at Hollywood Post Alliance Tech Retreat

Sony want to introduce two new professional OLED-Tv Monitors at the Hollywood Post Alliance Tech Retreat at 14-18 February.

The new 2D only OLED monitors are based on the same technology which Sony showed at the CES-2011. So that means that Sony want to introduce 24.5 inch monitors.

Plextronics announces availability of printable OLED material for ink-jets in 2011

Plextronics announced today that its Plexcore® OC NQ ink is now available for limited sampling, with more broad availability expected in 2011. The non-aqueous-based Hole Injection Layer (HIL) ink augments the company’s existing aqueous-based HIL, and is geared specifically for solution processible phosphorescent OLED emitters. The
company also expects to introduce ink-jet (printable) inks for limited sampling early in 2011. This is a major step for large, and cheap OLED-Television panels end 2011.

LG is demonstrating the world slimmest OLED-Television at the IFA-2010. The 3D OLED-Tv is only 2.9 mm thin and does have a full HD resolution and 600 Hz. This is only a prototype but LG want to introduce this device in 2011.

LG Electronics confirmed new 31 inch OLED-Television at IFA-2010

For a few days we report about a rumor that LG-Electronics want show a new 31-inch OLED-Televison at the IFA-2010 event in Berlin. Now the rumor is not longer a rumor, LG-Electronics Germany confirmed that the korean company will show a 31-inch OLED-Tv.
At the moment we don´t have more technical details about this new OLED panel, but we are still in contact with LG and we are at IFA-2010 to see the newest and largest panel from LG-Display.
