Bi-directional OLED microdisplay measure distances

The Fraunhofer institute showcase a bi-directional OLED microdisplays based on OLED-on-CMOS technology. The german institute are showing now a version that doubles as a dimensional sensor. Fraunhofer placed photodiodes between the organic pixels to create a bi-directional display. Fraunhofer IPMS and IOF thank the Federal Ministry for Education and Research BMBF for funding the project [...]

Video about Fraunhofers OLED microdisplay as camera!

oled-microdisplay-as-camera.jpg
The Fraunhofer IPMS works on the integration of sensors and microdisplays on CMOS backplane for several years now. For example the researchers developed bidirectional microdisplays that could be used in systems for optical acquisition and display of information.

The chips contain both an active OLED matrix with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and a therein integrated photodetector (160 x 120 pixels). The combination of both matrices in one chip is an essential possibility for system integrators to design smaller devices that make use of both functionalities.

Video of Fraunhofers Tabola Transparent Oled lighting panels

For a few days, the Fraunhofer IPMS introduced the new OLED lighting panels called Tabola. These panels are made by COMEDD,

Subsequent to this, COMEDD offers the development of OLED demonstrators and even the production of small and medium sized series of customer-specific OLED elements.

he Tabola Series is available in Q1 2011:

TABOLA 37(G):
TABOLA 77(G):
TABOLA 157(G):

35 x 75 mm²
75 x 75 mm²

The Fraunhofer-IPMS and Comedd (Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden) introduce the OLED lighting panel TABOLA. The Tabola panels are available in 3 sizes and in transparent, with grid or without. The head of the business unit for Lighting and Photovoltaics, Dr. Christian May, comments: “The OLED Light Tablets of different sizes allows customers to manage first own tests with this fascinating technology. Furthermore, they can build up OLED lighting solutions on their own.”
