Black Eyed Peas Fergie leather catsuit was carefully integrated with 75 Lumiblade OLED panels, which sparkled like mirrored glass when turned off. When illuminated, the panels were controlled remotely through a software program to orchestrate patterns and lighting sequences to the set-list, resulting in a truly innovative and integrated performance of music, lighting and technology.

Philips announced today that it is investing EUR 40 million to increase its production capacity for OLED-based lighting at its facility in Aachen, Germany. The investment will support the rapid growth of Philips’ OLED business, with increased availability of Philips OLED modules for high-end design lighting applications for decorative and ambience creation purposes. The additional capacity at Philips’ OLED facility in Aachen, which was originally established as a pilot production line, is expected to be available in 2012.

Our assistent Michel Schon got the chance to visit the Creative Lab from Philips in Aachen.

The presentation starts with some overview about Philips OLED lighting history.

Philips show also some very interesting presentation about the “Product feature roadmap”. In a few years we can control every color from a OLED panel says Mr. Mohs. Also transparent and flexible OLED lighting modules are possible in the near future. The lifetime and efficiency will increase dramatically in the coming years.

Philips offers a new Lumiblade OLED lighting panel called Square Tall plus. The new panel is very efficient with 45 lm/w instead of 12 lm/w. The size is 7×7 cm and the panel was developed from Konica Minolta. The panel costs about 120 euro and the minimum quantitiy is 100 units.
