Ignis show new MaxLife AMOLED backplane technology prototype

OLED-Display.net

IGNIS Innovation Inc. unveiled a new prototype display using its world leading backplane technology called MaxLife(TM). The MaxLife(TM) solution compensates not only for the thin film transistor (TFT) degradation, but also for OLED as well, making it the most uniform and reliable backplane demonstrated for AMOLED displays. IGNIS showed its prototype of a cutout of a 32” 1080p HDTV, with an operating device lifetime of 75,000 hrs and no image burn-in over that period, which is equivalent to 20 years when watching for 10hrs/day.

Vitex Systems Barix Barrier Film survives the Hammer test Video!

Vitex Systems Barix is a coating composed of alternating layers of polymer and ceramic thin films that can be deposited on a plastic substrate or directly on an OLED display. Mechanically it is much stronger than glass it replaced as shown by this hammer test.

The technology breakthrough that enables this to be used as the packaging material for flat panel displays is the creation of a barrier layer 10,000 times better than anything currently produced.

With this technology the OLEDs can be realized only 50 micrometers thin.

Novaled and Kodak jointly develop white OLED platform for display applications

Novaled and Eastman Kodak presented results of their joint research efforts in the area of white PIN OLEDs for AMOLED display applications at the SID. Based on Novaleds p- and n-type doped transport layers and Eastman Kodaks fluorescent emitter systems, single unit and tandem white OLEDs for the potential use in RGBW OLED displays were presented. For both approaches high efficiencies at low voltages combined with a very good white emission and long lifetimes were achieved.

OLED-based backlights for autostereoscopic 3D displays

Fraunhofer IPMS, is working on innovative autostereoscopic 3D displays with OLEDs as patterned backlight. At SID DisplayWeek 2009, an improved version of a 3,5 inch sized 3D QVGA display is shown that combines advantages of that technology like:

Large-area display OLED backlight (about 80 x 60 mm, supplying a 3.5 inch LCD modulator)
Highly-efficient and fast-response OLED top-emitter
Striped patterned backlight (stripe width 28 µm)
Individual electronic driving for adaptive backlight control (double-layer wiring integrated on the substrate)
