At the MWC-2011 Samsung show a comparison between a ordinary TFT-LCD against PLS-LCD (IPS type) and the brand new Super-Amoled-PLUS Display.
We are not sure if the PLS-LCD (IPS type) is like the Super-PLS LCD Display which Samsung showed in December 2010.

Samsung Mobile Display report record sales and margin in Q3 2010

Samsung mobile display report a new record in OLED sales in the third quarter 2010. For the first time SMDs sales reached 1.272 Trillion Won (900 Million Dollars). SMD announced also a new margin record (134 billion won).
Thanks to the success of Super-Amoled and the Galaxy-S smartphone, Smd has reached this goal.

AUO want to compete against SMD with cheaper AMOLED Panels in 1Q 2011

The demand of AMOLEDs for smartphones is very strong, and Samsung Mobile Display can not deliver so much OLED Panels. Now AU Optronics or AUO want to introduce there touch panel business for smartphones under its consumer product display business group.

AUO has begun production of in-cell touch panels based on its TFT-LCD manufacturing technology.

AUO start the mass production of small/medium sized AMOLEDs in 2011 with the 3.5G plant. The Display Business Operation executive VP Paul Peng says that in addition Auo may use its 4.5G production equipment to make OLED panels.

STMicroelectronics unveils new ICs for AMOLED which increases battery life for Smartphones

STMicroelectronics, a provider of power semiconductors, has unveiled a family of ICs to power the AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays that enable today’s advanced handheld devices to deliver high-quality web and video experiences on the move.

The new IC family, STOD03A, consolidates all the display module’s power requirements in a single chip, by providing the needed positive and negative supply voltages from a single chip, the company said.

Samsung says every manufacturer can use SUPER-AMOLED!

In an Interview with the Wall Street Journal, the vice president from Samsung Mobile Display Lee Woo-Jong says that “Every manufacturer can use Super-Amoled Displays in their products”

The new OLED Panel production line starts mid June 2011 and boost the capacity from 3 million to 30 million small panels per month.

Also the statement about the AMOLED shortage is a little surprise, Lee said that:
