So-Light Project for OLED displays and special lighting founded

novaled
In the recently started ‘So-Light’ project eleven German companies and research institutes work closely together on OLEDs. The goal is to reach a leading position in the fast growing worldwide OLED market. The 14.7 Million Euro project is also financially supported by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research).

Organic Solar Cells reach 6 % confirmed efficiency

Heliatek GmbH (Dresden/Ulm) develops organic solar cells consisting of so called “small molecules” organic dyes which are synthesized from hydrocarbons. Those solar cells are characterized by low cost, short energy payback time and inexhaustible availability of raw materials.

OLED-based backlights for autostereoscopic 3D displays

Fraunhofer IPMS, is working on innovative autostereoscopic 3D displays with OLEDs as patterned backlight. At SID DisplayWeek 2009, an improved version of a 3,5 inch sized 3D QVGA display is shown that combines advantages of that technology like:

Large-area display OLED backlight (about 80 x 60 mm, supplying a 3.5 inch LCD modulator)
Highly-efficient and fast-response OLED top-emitter
Striped patterned backlight (stripe width 28 µm)
Individual electronic driving for adaptive backlight control (double-layer wiring integrated on the substrate)

Fraunhofer Ipms to show first Bidirectional Microdisplay OLED on CMOS

For the first time ever, OLEDs and OLED-on-CMOS integration offer the possibility to integrate highly efficient light sources with photo detectors on a single CMOS chip.

So what does this mean? The main application is that this device can show an image and, at the same time, track the movement of the users eye.

Who need this?

Details about Fraunhofer-IPMS TouchOLED

toucholed-fraunhofer-ipms
Fraunhofer IPMS shows the worldwide first interactive touch controlled flat light source. Based on the fact that OLED is a cold light source, touching control is a safe operation.
