By 2007, the OLED Industry had begun to ship products that were used in mobile phones, MP3s, automobiles, and headsets, yet the companies making the material, equipment, displays and lighting were virtually invisible. The newly emerging industry is relatively small – with ~US$500M in global revenues – but a handful of visionary leaders came together to create a forum to spotlight the OLED industry participants. The result is the OLED Association (OLED-A).

Guiding our entire discussion was one over-arching question: when will we start seeing very large OLED panels at affordable prices? The answer, in a nutshell, is maybe in 2010—but it ultimately depends on how fast the global economy recovers.

Samsung Mobile Display – showcases several OLED display panels, ranging in size from 2.6 to 14.1 inches, including panels already used in mobile devices and panels slated to appear in future devices. SMD, a new joint venture between Samsung SDI and Samsung Electronics, is a leading supplier of AMOLED displays used in mobile phones, as well as PMP, DSC, and DPF devices. SMD demonstrates other future concept devices including a transparent AMOLED, 3D AMOLED, and a foldable display based on AMOLED.
