Detail Photos from Sonys XEL-1 OLED-Television
So when you are in Japan and you buy the first OLED-Television over the Sony Style Japan shop you become this box with the world first OLED-TV:

"Such a big box for an 11-inch TV," we thought aloud as we opened the box, only to find another box inside.

The black inner box has an extremely simple design, bearing only the words "SONY" and "OLED Digital TV XEL-1" in Japanese.

The screen was covered with a suede protection cover just like a jewelry wrapping.

Here you can see all the content of the box:

The remote control from the XEL-1 is only 10mm thick.

The OLED measures 3mm at the thinnest part!

The first start of the XEL-1!

1.000.000:1 contrast ratio!

After we took out the bezels and other parts at the back of the display unit, we could see two FPCs connecting the unit with the turner block, which serves as a TV mount. The two circuits were thought to supply power and the drive signal.

The display unit seen from backside: The FPCs connecting the glass substrate of the OLED panel and the drive circuit all had different shapes.

The glass substrates of the OLED panel each measured 0.7mm in thickness and 1.4mm in total. The bezels were 0.6mm thick per piece and 1.2mm in total. They were 2.6mm thick all together. A gap of 0.4mm was provided supposedly in consideration of the flexibility of the FPCs.
The OLED Panel:

The heat dissipation unit removed. The heat radiation sheets were attached to the LSIs for contact with the dissipation unit. The internal reception antenna for the digital terrestrial broadcasting was mounted on the opposite side to the tuner.
