OLED Flash lighting from Rohm with 100,000 cd m2

Wow this is really a OLED Flash lighting prototype, Rohm Inc shows some shadowless lamp and an OLED flash at CEATEC JAPAN 2008.

The "shadowless lamp" uses an OLED lighting device with a cover that intricately diffuses light in a complex manner so that the objects illuminated by the light have no shadow. The flash is capable of instantaneously emitting light with a high luminance of 100,000cd/m2. When not used as a flash, it can be used as OLED lighting equipment with a luminance of 3,000-4,000cd/m2 or higher.

First Pictures from Sonys and Max Planck Institute Transparent, Bendable, Folding OLED

The study from Sony and the Max Planck Institute, published in the New Journal of Physics, demonstrates the possibility of bendable, optically assessed, organic light emitting displays (OLED), based o

Sony and Max Planck shows off transparent, bendable OLED displays

Sony and the Max Planck Institute shows a new OLED prototype a bendable, transparent OLED Panel, heralding the development of digital newspapers, ultra-lightweight laptops and rollable large screen TVs.

The new OLED technology is based on the upconversion of red or infrared light and has a number of advantages over today's LCD and screens.

The all-organic technology is see-through and flexible, with an almost unlimited viewing angle and high efficiency.

KDDI shows WVGA OLED

KDDI Corp shows at the CEATEC 2008 a 3.1 inch OLED panel with a 800x480 pixel resolution this is WVGA.

It employs Clairvoyante Inc's pixel array dubbed "PenTile." The company is "planning to use the new panel on actual products shortly although the exact timeline cannot be mentioned," the demonstrator said.

The OLED panel was developed by Samsung SDI Co Ltd of Korea, as were panels on KDDI's au-branded mobile phones. The largest OLED panel that has been supplied from Samsung SDI to KDDI is a 3-inch model, and the highest resolution panel thus far is a 400 x 240 (wide QVGA) product.

Nikkai OLED Buttons at CEATEC

Nikkai is showing some OLED buttons at CEATEC. The buttons are bulkier than anything on an Art Lebedev product, and seem to have three input states: depressed, tilted left and tilted right (or up and down, depending on orientation) which makes makes for what amounts to a highly versatile and communicative switch. A second button is a simpler in/out configuration, albeit with a larger screen 64x48.

Sony shows several OLED panels at the CEATEC 2008 event

The CEATEC 2008 in Japan is another highlight for OLED and Sony.

Sony has shown off another OLED prototype at this year's Ceatec, with a razor-thin flexible screen on display.
