LG Display want to triple their OLED production capacity. To reach this goal LG will invest 225.7 Million Dollars.
LG plans to expand its monthly OLED output capacity to 12,000 glass sheets in the latter half of 2011, from the current 4,000. It plans to mass produce OLEDs in the third quarter this year.
LG Display want to compete against Samsung Mobile Display and want to deliver AmOLEDS for high end mobile phones smartphones, and in the near future large size Flat screen Tvs. The new production line can handle glasses with 730x920mm sizes.
Update:
LG Display’s CEO Mr. Young Soo Kwon said, “Timely production based on accurate market prediction and customer-oriented marketing activities have reinforced our customer base. That, combined with a favorable LCD market, led to our sound performance. We will step up development efforts in new areas such as AMOLED and flexible display to expand our business portfolio and ensure sustained growth over the long run.”
LG Display plans a 30 inch OLED-Television in mid 2011. The company want to be a leader in OLED-TV market.
Apple extend their contract with LG Display which was originally signed for 500 million dollars up to 800 million dollars. So maybe LG Display need OLED capacity for the new generation IPAD.
