Merck acquires the entire IP portfolio of OLED-T


Merck KGaA today announced the completion of an agreement to acquire the entire intellectual property (IP) portfolio of
the company OLED-T with immediate effect.
OLED-T has an extensive IP portfolio in the field of electron transport and
phosphorescent-emitting materials for OLED (organic light-emitting diode) applications.
OLEDs have been gaining ground in the field of display and lighting devices, where
specifically power-saving features are of key interest Merck KGaA will combine the acquired IP with its own extensive IP portfolio and
expertise to further expand its position as a market leader in the development and
commercialization of new innovative OLED materials.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Merck OLED Materials GmbH, which comprised Merck’s activities in the OLED
materials field, was merged with Merck KGaA on April 1, 2007. The research and
business activities were integrated into the Liquid Crystals division. OLEDs (organic
light-emitting diodes) are an innovative field of work, which could develop long-term
into a promising technology for displays. OLEDs can also be used as light sources for a
