Organic electronics Roadmap White Paper
Today, virtually all of the revenues for OE come from one sector – OLED displays. As shown in
Table 1, by 2014, we expect organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) still to be the largest sector of the
market ($13.8 billion), but believe that by then the radio frequency identification (RFID) sector will
be around the same order of magnitude ($11.1 billion), with the backplane segment reaching
$2.8 billion and several other sectors that barely exist now – lighting, sensors and memory – each
clocking up revenues over one billion dollars.
Meanwhile, the OLED market will be a quite different thing than it is today; it will no longer be
about cell phone sub-displays and MP3 player displays, but will have broken out into cell phone
main displays and televisions.
The printed version of this brochure includes an inlay with various sample devices of organic electronics as well as a set of interactive mass-printed electronic cards. This is the first time that organic electronics are provided as a give-away, and we hope these examples give you a vivid impression of the fascinating world of this new, thin, lightweight and flexible electonics. The inlay is the result of the efforts of more than ten OE-A members, and impressively demonstrates the capabilities and variety of organic electronics.
