Osram to showcase the OLED lighting House model

The Science Express to tour 60 German cities by the end of November 2009 – Siemens, as a leading supporter, to contribute a wide range of exhibits and related projects.
At this Science Express Siemens and Osram to showcase the future of lighting.
Shining Future with OLEDS
The Siemens subsidiary Osram is using the model of a “Light House” to showcase how OLEDS can be used for an entirely new residential design concept.
OLEDs are extremely thin, flexible and even transparent OLEDs that can be applied to almost any surface, including windows, ceilings and even sections of the floor. These surfaces become light sources at the push of a button.
Transparent OLED lighting
Due to their transparency, OLEDs make completely new lighting solutions possible. In the future, for example, OLED-coated windows could provide light at night. This large-area transparent OLED was created by the lab at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors.

White OLEDs currently have an efficiency of 60 lumens per Watt and a service life of more than 5,000 hours. The OSRAM employee shown here is checking an OLED mounted in a testing device.
