Google Engineer Jeff Sharkey tells readers about how OLED displays can save more battery life through using a specific color pixel.
In his blog, he shows how he used SurfaceFlinger to produce several filters between red and full-color.
He then measured the amount of power it takes for various color modes by using a power meter while the phone is on Airplane mode and the GPS is turned off.
Here are the results:
The results of his tests showed that as much as 50% of the battery life can be saved when you filtered to show only red colors.
