For a few days we learned that LG-Display want to introduce a 55 inch OLED-Tv in 2012. Now the australian website smarthouse reports that Apple want to use this panels for its own APPLE OLED-Tv product.
There is also speculation that Apple has held discussions with LG Display the Company that makes display screens for MAC products, about the possibility of getting access to a new 55 LG OLED panel that will be used in a new Apple TV that will be capable of delivering music, Video & TV shows over an IP network.
We did not believe this rumor because LG Display will start the production with only tens of thousands of units due to limited production facilities, but they want to expand them to a mass production system, observing market reactions. Thats not a goal from Apple, Apple want a ready product which they can sell millions time. But maybe in 2013 it can be true and Apple has some deal with LG that only Apple can use this technology in the future.
Digitimes support our opinion:
Taiwan-based panel makers pointed out that Apple is unlikely to offer TVs using 55-inch AMOLED panels for the time being because development of large-sized AMOLED panels is not mature yet and therefore yield rates are low and production costs are high.
