There are rumors that Apples chief operating officer Tim Cook spoke with Samsung to use AMOLED Displays for Apples IPAD-3. This is only a rumor and it is not possible for 2011 and for the IPAD-3. A Samsung Mobile Display spokesperson said he had not heard of such discussions with Apple.
Samsung Mobile Display ramped up a 5.5 Gen AMOLED fab, but this fab is only for small AMOLED Displays for the smartphone market. SMD delay one of the 5.5 Gen line for tablet-pcs (7-9 inch) to 2012. In an interview with Barry Young the managing director of the OLED-Association he told us that its not possible to see an Apple product in 2011. We also see no Galaxy Tab with AMOLED in 2011. We think that Apple use AMOLED first in one of their IPOD, Iphone products, but not in 2011. Maybe 2012…
