We are opting either to combine it with an envisioned joint venture with Samsung SDI on AM OLED displays or send the mobile LCD unit to Samsung SDI’s Mobile Display Business Unit,” a high-ranking Samsung Electronics official told The Korea Times, Tuesday.
“If the mobile unit joins the joint venture with Samsung SDI, then Samsung Electronics could create synergy for a better profit in the growing small-sized handheld devices equipped with the next-generation displays,” he added.
Samsung and SDI are planning to launch the 50:50 joint venture to strengthen their competitiveness in the next-generation AM OLED displays. The venture, tentatively named “Samsung Mobile Display” as the paper earlier reported, still needs final approval from board meetings and Samsung sources say the final decision will come out on July 25.
