Samsung Mobile Displays Sang-Soo Kim (Executive Vice President) says at SID-2010 that OLEDs will be the next big thing in displays.
Now SMD announces Concept for OLED Manufacture on 8th-Generation Line. Samsung announced plans to use an 8th generation line (2200mmx2500mm sheet size) for OLED-Tv volume production.
OLED panels are going to be sold as the ultimate answer to 3D TVs using the increasingly popular frame sequential scheme. The actual date was not disclosed, but Samsung mobile display is thought to be planning to construct a volume production line within the next few years.

At the moment there are some technical issues that must be resolved before large OLED panels can be produced on the 8th generation line. The 8th generation line is the basic sheet for mass production for Organic light emitting television devices.
SMD plans to introduce low-temperature poly-Si TFTs using conventional excimer laser annealing (ELA) in a newly built 5.5th-generation line.
SMD is simultaneously developing a number of candidate technologies for drive devices in the 8th-generation OLED panel manufacturing line, and hopes to establish volume production technology.
