At the CES-2011 Samsung Mobile Display showcased prototypes with flexible AMOLED Displays. Now Samsung Electronics that the korean company plans to introduce smartphones with flexible displays in 2012.
“The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part,” said spokesman Robert Yi during an earnings call. “The application probably will start from the handset side.”
Yi said tablets and other mobile devices with flexible displays would follow.
We think thats possible because we talked with Samsung Mobile Display at the CES-2011 in Las vegas, and these guys was optimistic that SMD can start the mass production in 2012.
SMDs flexible OLED panels will be produced on plastic (Polymide) substrate and are able to withstand high temperature of 350 to 400 degrees.
