Samsung-SDI shows OLED product roadmap 40-inch Full HD Organic TV can be realized in 2010
Ho Kyoon Chung presented Samsung-SDIs OLED panel roadmap and said, "OLED panels have opened the new era of organic optoelectronics. Not only displays but also new applications such as OLED lighting systems, organic electro-luminescent power generators and organic sensors will emerge in the near future."
Here are the details of the roadmap:
"Following small panels used in 2007, 3.5- to 7-inch panels including 4.1-inch panels will be applied to ultra mobile PCs, for example, in 2008. Then we will realize 14-, 15- and 21-inch panels in 2009 and large 40- to 42-inch full HD (high definition) OLED TVs in 2010."
Samsung SDI will also development a flexible OLED at 2012!
As for OLED lighting systems, Chung said, "It won't be long before we commercialize them," because the OLED's light emitting efficiency is currently doubling every year. The company currently achieves 50lm/W luminance, a life of 20,000 hours till the initial luminance halves and a color rendering property of more than 80 colors.
Sony's Executive President Takashi Fukuda said his company set the focus on OLED!
As for OLEDs that the company developed as new devices, "We regarded (OLEDs) as the most powerful candidates for the next-generation displays and commercialized them without delay," he said.
Fukuda said that he wants to offer new life spaces by taking advantage of OLED's 3mm thinness and "unexperienced" high image quality.
"It is an 11-inch OLED. However, it displays deep images so that users do not feel it's only 11 inches," he said. "Though we wish to develop large OLEDs, there are some hurdles. To be honest, it's difficult to develop larger sizes unless we make various improvements."
