The nascent united center is characterized by the AM OLED, a new flat panel display technology, because the other OLED technologies are all about passive matrix OLED (PM OLED).
By now, the center has had more than 120 patents in the OLED and new flat panel display areas. It also has been equipped with the nation’s leading 200 by 200mm AM OLED trial production line. Besides, it does well in manufacture, packaging, testing, and system integration. Professional equipment or software at the center is valued at more than CNY 60 million.
In addition, the flat panel display united center is responsible for many key scientific and technological projects of the country and Shanghai. For instance, one project is for the Ministry of Science and Technology, on the R&D of AM OLED on a basis of micro-crystalline silicon thin film transistor (TFT). The others include key programs for new display industrialization, the construction of flat panel display’s study base, production base, and R&D base, and so on.
The center is trying to, before 2010, independently establish a 200 by 200mm AM OLED trial R&D and production line, as well as tackle hard-nut problems in TFT new technology, produce OLEDs with low cost, work out new manufacture procedures, and install new equipment. It should be capable of massively producing AM OLEDs at various sizes from 1.8 inches to seven inches, in a bid to back up the production line of 2.5-generation AM OLEDs.
Before 2015, the center should upgrade the study base, production base, and R&D base and then start mass production of over-seven-inch AM OLEDs, to provide tech support for the production line of 4.5-generation AM OLEDs.
