SID 2009 Display Week Highlights

The Society for Information Display (SID) announced today some of the latest highlights and must-see events transpiring at Display Week 2009, in San Antonio, Texas. As the leading global organization dedicated to the advancement of electronic display technology, SID’s week-long 47 th annual International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition continues to serve as the premier venue for the electronic display industry to unveil its latest advances.

Display Week 2009 will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from May 31 – June 5. Tuesday morning, June 2, will feature keynotes spanning a variety of compelling and timely topics ranging from LCD and 3-D displays to plastic electronic displays. This year’s keynote speakers are Dr. In-Jae Chung, executive vice president and chief technology officer of LG Display, Korea; Dr. Yasuhiro Takaki, associate professor for the Institute of Symbiotic Science and Technology at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology; and Mr. Martin Jackson, vice president of technology for the Cambridge Technology Center at Plastic Logic.

This year’s symposium will feature a number of interesting OLED papers from Doosan Mecatec/Veeco, Dupont Displays, Kodak/Semprius, Samsung SDI and Sony—further proving that this rapidly growing technology is going to give today’s mainstream LCD technology some tough competition over the next few years. That said, this year will show that LCDs still maintain their advantage as the most cost-effective source of high-quality displays, especially given new developments in viewing angle control, resolution, response time, energy efficiency, and cost. In fact, there will be no shortage of presentations or exhibitors focusing on developments in the LCD arena, including LG Electronics, Nakan Corp. and Asahi Kasei EMD, all of whom will be presenting on some novel approaches they are making within the LCD space. Display Week will also be the place to hear about the continuous improvements being made with plasma technology, including improving efficiency, while also highlighting the endeavors underway to lower production cost while increasing performance. These advances will be featured in presentations from Philips, Seoul National University and Hongik University.
