Sony shows OLED-TV in India but no more details about the start in Japan
Unveiling the technologically advanced 11-inch organic light emitting diode (OLED) television planned to be launched in Japan by this year end, Mr. Tamagawa said the company would invest Rs. 150 crore for brand and channel enhancement, besides consolidating operations and focussing more on tapping the rural market.
Mr. Tamagawa, however, did not spell out the details of the time and price at which OLED television would be available in India. The Japanese firm operates in India through four companies — Sony BMG, Sony Entertainment, Sony-Ericsson and Sony India. The consumer electronics business, Sony India, reported a 26 per cent rise in sales at Rs. 596 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, against Rs. 472 crore in the same period last fiscal.
Observing that growth in the consumer electronics segment would be mainly driven by the company’s LCD television Bravia, digital camera Cyber-shot, handycam digital products and Vaio notebooks, he said Sony was eyeing to sell around one lakh LCD sets in the 32” category to corner about 25 per cent market share this year.
