TDK shows flexible and transparent PM-OLED Panels

TDK Corp introduce two types of PMOLED Panels (passive matrix). The first prototype is flexible and bendable, the other is a transparent display.

The flexible OLED panel is as thin as 0.3mm or less. The weights of the color-display and monochrome-display models are 1.11g and 0.96g, respectively.

TDK use a resin substrate, with this technology they can reduce the thickness and weighs about 1/6 from existing panels which using a glass substrate.The flexible panel has a screen size of 3.5 inches and a pixel count of 256 x 64. TDK shows this prototpye at the Kita Ibaraki production line. TDK want to start the colume production at the end of 2011.

TDK OLED panel that has a transmittance of 50%

A panel of 50% transmittance is new world record. Samsung Mobile Displays transparent panel was about 40%.

The see-through panel has a screen size of 2 inches and a pixel count of 320 x 240 (QVGA). TDK says that this transparent panel has a top-emission structure.

And we are ready to mass produce this panel “now”!
