Toshiba and Panasonic double OLED-TV lifespan?
Now really good news from the Toshiba and Panasonic joint venture.
The biggest problem of a OLED-TV is/was the lifespan of the panel. The Sony XEL-1 does have a lifespan about 30.000 hours. A LCD Panel does have typically 50.000 hours.
Now Toshiba and Panasonic use a new technology which expands the OLED lifespan:
A metal membrane inside the prototype 20.8-inch screen helps deliver light from polymers in the substrate out through the glass surface more efficiently than current OLEDs can manage.
The end result means the brightness can be halved while maintaining the same picture quality, which adds up to doubling the lifespan of screens using the new method
In December Toshiba delay OLED TV because on the high cost of mass production. However, a company spokesman said it will continue to watch the market to see if making OLED TVs becomes “commercially viable” in years to come.
