Why the Apple IPAD-3 will have NO OLED-Display

In the last days there are some rumors that Apple want to use OLEDs in their IPAD-3. Now we give you the hard facts why this rumor is NOT true.

Samsungs first production line from the 5.5G line starts the production in the next two weeks. This first stage of production will turn out 24,000 substrates per month. Samsung Mobile display want to ramp up 3 lines of that 5.5G line, the monthly output of 4-inch panels can increase up to 8 million every month with these first 5.5G production line.
The market research company Isuppli thinks that could be possible in end of 2011.

We know that the second line of the 5.5G production line this will be ready in the second quarter of 2012 because of the japanese earthquacke and the demand of panels. Another reason is that Samsung delay the investments for for the 6-9 inch size which are for the Tablet-Pc market to 2012.

Samsung Mobile Display will concentrate on small-and medium sized panels with these two 5.5G lines. Samsung want to produce a 7 inch Galaxy Tab which using a OLED Display. Isuppli thinks that this can not be reached befor 2013. We think that this can be possible in 2012 for 7 inch panels.

The conclusion of these hard facts are that its impossible that Samsung Mobile Display can deliver 7-9 inch OLED panels to Apple in 2011. Isuppli thinks its possible in 2013! We think it can be possible that Samsung Mobile Display can deliver million 3-4 inch panels to Apple but not millions of 7-9 inch panels in 2011/1Q2012.

Digitimes about the rumors:
There are market rumors that iPad 3 will adopt AMOLED panels and Apple management has been visiting Samsung Electronics for this matter. However, industry sources said this is unlikely to happen and iPad 3 will still adopt 9.7-inch LCD panels.

Interview with Barry Young Director OLED-Association

The 7 inch OLED panels are realistic in end of 2011, because Samsung Mobile Display needs some time to ramp up the production of line of that size. But Samsung delay that production line to 2012!

Barry Young we will see NO Apple product in 2011 with an OLED
